Love Drive: To fear or to love

Love casts out fear, the fear of being alone when you ask a brother to use a condom or insist on using a condom for yourself. The love that leads a brother to take condoms and lube with him to his favorite cruising grounds or the love that leads him to limit the number of his sex partners and increase the quality of his intimate relationships.

Love casts out the fear and helps a brother say to ‘Preacher Man’/'Preacher Woman’ with all due respect, “I believe something different”. It helps a brother read and learn and know for himself the reasons why he can believe differently and why he’s right to be so.

Love casts out the fear that causes a brother to run scared of commitment; the fear that makes him believe in the lies that a man isn’t a man if he’s with a man.

It casts out the fear that enslaves brothers for being seen with a brother who might be different, or “clockable”. The fear that leaves different or “clockable” brothers lonely, acting out or trying to “shield” themselves in the armor of excessive behaviors.

Love helps a brother tell momma and daddy, sister and brother, Uncle Joe or Aunt Cora that roommate is more than “roommate”. It helps a brother say that it’s fine that you don’t want us sleeping in the same bed in your house (’ain’t nothin’ but a thang’) we’ll stay at the hotel when we come to town, cause “we’re” together.

Love helps a brother feel that “I-AM-somebody” feeling on a walk with a brother down by the riverside, in the sports arena or movie theater, sitting in the very next seat when there’s room around to be apart. Love helps a brother feel the SEX of love when he’s fully clothed.

And when the clothes come off, or when the brother is just helping and being helped by a brother for the night or for just a minute; the caring remains, the lubes and condoms are used, because the LOVE is everlasting.
