U.S. bars talk of climate change effects on bears

George Bush is so NOT a Christian.

In recent weeks the growing progressive Christian movement (not to be mistaken with the religious right) of the likes of Jim Wallace and Sojourners has spoken out on the environment and global warming as a moral and social test of faith. Commissions and admonitions like “Love they neighbor” and “in so much as you’ve done to the least of these” take on new meaning with the backdrop of ever expanding freeways, longer commutes, the more violent storm weather and the destruction and death associated with it. Their recognition of this blind spot, willful ignorance or purposed unfaithfulness and silence on the part of high-ranking religious leaders and rank and file members, is stirring up discussion that some, of the likes of James Dobson and Focus on the Family, want to squash.

Now more evidence comes to light that the government administration of the self-proclaimed born again Christian, George Bush, is seriously working to manipulate information regarding the health of the global climate which impacts ourselves and our neighbor. Sadly, this administration’s track record does not bend toward manipulation of information for the truth or what is right or just. It is likely that this trend continues.

Thankfully, we are not left alone. We who’s minds, eyes, and ears have been open to being faithful in our lifestyles toward a healthier planet are part of a growing chorus of primitive faith. Thank you to Jim Wallace, Sojourners and others of faith who are shining the light.

The Bush administration is ordering federal wildlife officials headed for international meetings on polar bears not to talk about how climate change and melting ice are affecting the imperiled animals.

It is the latest in a string of cases in which the administration has carefully controlled or even banned government employees’ public speech about global warming.
