2008: Get it right or else

December 31st, 2007 · No Comments

As our marker for a year of time turns from 2007 to 2008 it’s good to turn down the volume, walk away from the noise and distractions and reflect, think and decide. Ask yourself. “Self? Did I make 2007 what it was? Was it good or was it a mess?” And then ask yourself. “Self? Am I about to make 2008 another mess or am I going to get it right?”

The changing of the “year” is a great time to make changes within yourself, your mind, what you think, what you believe and the actions you take.

One of the biggest noises going now is the coming Presidential election. There is enough noise and fluff to distract. The following thought was written by David Swanson in a post titled “Death By Election” at After Downing Street.

If we want John Edwards to promise never to launch an aggressive war, we will impeach the people who launched the last one. If we want Hillary Clinton to commit to not spying on Huckabee (or any of us) without a warrant and probable cause, we will put behind bars the architects of the current spying programs. If we want the world to understand that Bush and Cheney and the current Congress do not speak for us, we will raise our voices now, not next November. Focusing on the choices presented to us in a two-year electoral campaign leads to insufficient pressure on Congress (with disastrous results in 2007), not to mention independent billionaire campaigns.

If we want credible elections and palatable candidates, we will break the electoral spell and start behaving like the citizens of a democracy.

May you find courage to “Be still and know” for a change. Know what is good and then do good.
