The #1 thing to know as an informed citizen anywhere in the United States is this — you have the right to vote on a Provisional Ballot. Say that with me now, PROVISIONAL BALLOT.
When you are at the voting station and are told that your name is not on the list you are to ASK FOR A PROVISIONAL BALLOT
When you are at the voting station and are told that your address isn’t current you are to
ASK FOR A PROVISIONAL BALLOT
When you are at the voting station and are told that it’s closed you are to check the bushes, behind dumpters, in closets and around corners… for people playing hide-and-go-seek and are waiting to rush in to cast opposing votes.
Practice these phrases:
“May I have a provisional ballot, please?” Repeat this seven times.
“Did I ask for a provisional ballot? I can’t remember.” This one is good if you’re prone to forget things.
Condition yourself to reflexivly blurt these phrases out, don’t question, don’t even think, just let it rip!
Another thing you can do it write youself a reminder on sticky notes. Place them in various parts of your house, office, car or person. If your kid loves wearing sticky notes on his or her forehead, then you use that forehead! “Provisional Ballot” should work for the small space.
Be creative! There are more ways to remind yourself, “Self! You have a RIGHT to a PROVISIONAL BALLOT!”
