What did Barack say about NAFTA before “NAFTAgate”? Well the following statement from his web site is essentially the same message he has spoken on talk shows and in his rallies.
Amend the North American Free Trade Agreement:
Obama believes that NAFTA and its potential were oversold to the American people. Obama will work with the leaders of Canada and Mexico to fix NAFTA so that it works for American workers.

So what should he do now in the wake of “NAFTAgate”? Given the truth that we now know — neither Obama, NOR did his campaign call Canada to say that he was not serious about his talk and goal of fixing NAFTA so that it works for American workers — should Obama do anything to rightfully clear his name?
Does a NAFTA that works for American workers then “NOT” work for Canadian workers? Is there a middle ground that works for workers on both sides of the boarder? And if that is the case can it be duplicated to work with workers in Mexico and so on?
Isn’t that the goal, or shouldn’t it be? Economic trade is as as old as human history. At some level, there’s no way that we can live without it. However severe problems can occur when it is owned and used on the corporate and global-scale.
Yes, NAFTA does need fixing and should be fixed so that it works for all workers; and Yes, we were manipulated, we are seeing more clearly every day that it wasn’t Obama or his campaign doing the manipulation.
