Love Alive 30 years!

Love Alive by Walter Hawkins

Good lord! Where has the time gone? I forgot all about this. 1975-6… which means they were recording this in 1974-5 the year I lost my cherished sombrero in the California desert. I was not happy.

We were on our way to “Amabama” as one friend called it. But I remember that Love Alive was a big blow up that reached all the way to and was a big taboo in some circles in the south. In those circles, Love Alive and the Hawkins’ while “Christian” were viewed to be part of a creepin’ compromise of wild stuff purcolating in places like that devil West Coast and welling up out of the grimy dens of sin in the urban northeast.

But it just can’t be. 30 years! Wow! I had a crush on Walter Hawkins that was just crazy! Crazy! That funky long perm-hair look, mustaches, chin hair, sideburns… that and the music caused a CHANGE to come over me. It is an album were “Walter and Tramaine Hawkins outsing one another”, a truth as described by Bil Carpenter (All Music Guide). ~ 30 years ago…
